Please note that this is not a dance.

Instead it's more like an informal concert where members of the audience can choose to perform their party piece.

Come along with songs, music or stories to contribute to the evening’s entertainment in any language or just come along to listen and enjoy.

It starts at 7.45pm and finishes about 10.30 pm.

Come with the partner of your dreams, by yourself, with friends and/or children - no need to feel shy.

Supper provided.
Bring your own booze or soft drinks - glasses are available at the hall.

It's an ideal chance to read out or recite one (or more) of your short stories or poems to an appreciative audience, play an instrument or sing, though there's no compulsion - if you just want to eat and listen, that's OK.

Most people sing or read in English or Scots, some in Gaelic.
Some Gaelic spoken (with translation into English).

£6 non-members, £5 members of Gaelic in the Borders.

In the past there has always been a raffle.

Melrose Parish Church Hall is on the crown of the hill above Melrose Rugby Club. There's plenty of parking.

Carols for Christmas

 

 Every Christmas we have a Carol Service in the Borders General Hospital for patients, their families and friends and staff.   We usually have carols sung by a local choir interspersed with traditional readings.   This year we would like to be a little more innovative and use readings written by local poets and authors.   The readings can be poetry or prose, have a religious or non-religious Christmas theme and be about 250 words in length.

Hawick Missal Fragment Project - Writers' Workshop

Hawick Missal Fragment Project - Writers' Workshop Saturday 30th November 2013 Hawick and Melrose The project is seeking writers interested in contributing responses to the story of the Missal fragment, its music and the object itself. The resulting poems will be published on the Fragments website and a selection chosen for an illustrated book that will be displayed and archived with the Missal fragment itself in the Heritage Hub in Hawick. The creative writing project kicks off with a workshop on 30th November 2013 in Hawick and Melrose learning more from experts about the Missal fragment and Abbey life. Meet the Poet: Wendy Cope

Since her highly acclaimed poetry collection Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis (Faber and Faber 1986), Wendy Cope has been at the forefront of the British poetry scene. A winner of the Cholmondeley Award in 1987, other publications include Serious Concerns (Faber 1992), the Whitbread Poetry Award shortlisted If I Don’t Know (Faber 2001) and Cures for Love (Faber 2008). A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, in 1998 she was listeners’ choice in a BBC Radio 4 poll to succeed Ted Hughes as Poet Laureate.
